چکیده

Thank you for the interest and observations on our case report of ocular sparganosis in Brazil. Although we were not able to observe the parasite’s migration, the patient stated that the resected lesions had changed their position around the eyeball along a period of time. Because we found no other signs of parasitic infection before or after removal of these parasites, we strongly believe that coinfection is a possible hypothesis.

Ocular sparganosis in Thailand.

Human sparganosis which was first reported by Patrick Manson in 1882 (Beaver, 1984) is a rare parasitic infection caused by the migrating plero cercoid larva or sparganum of a certain group of pseudophyllidean cestodes, namely in the genus Spirometra Mueller, 1937. The adults of these tapeworms are generally found in the intestinal lumen of domestic, feral, or wild canids and felids (Daly, 198...

IgG antibody responses in early experimental sparganosis and IgG subclass responses in human sparganosis.

Antigenic components in the crude extracts of Spirometra mansoni plerocercoid were analyzed in early experimental infections and in IgG subclass observed in clinical sparganosis. By IgG immunoblot, sera obtained serially from experimental mice, fed 5 spargana each, were reacted with the crude extracts. Protein bands at 36-26 kDa and 103 kDa showed positive reactions since two weeks after infect...

Blepharoptosis and cysticercosis.

The recent report on ptosis and cysticercosis is very interesting (Labh et al, 2013). The authors mentioned that that was a rare presentation of cysticercosis and also noted that “extraocular cysticercosis could be treated with oral steroid and albendazole”. Indeed, cysticercosis is a tissue infection and can be seen at any organ including the eyes. The ocular presentation of cysticercosis is n...
